GEAR UP EVENTS
Roosevelt High School

Gear Up Liaison, Stephen
Anderson, hosted "The Importance of Graduating High
School" forum on October 17 at Roosevelt High School.
Nearly 500 10th grade students were in attendance to lend
an ear to guest speaker Michael Butler Sr., as he stressed the
importance of receiving an education. The purpose of this
activity was to promote the importance of graduating from
high school and pursuing a post-secondary education.

Carnahan High School of the Future

Twenty Carnahan High
School 10th graders, called “The Freedom Riders”,
toured Washington D.C. on May 5-8. During their visit, students
were able to tour the campuses of Howard
University and Georgetown University. In addition to the
college tours, The Freedom Riders had a chance to visit
the Holocaust Museum, Washington State Park, Arlington National
Cemetery, National Archives, and the US Capital. To conclude
their trip, The Freedom Riders had the distinct privilege
of meeting Congressman WM. Lacy Clay (D) Missouri.

Math and Science Teacher's Summit at the Missouri Botanical Garden

Teachers enjoyed the GEAR UP Math and Science Summit held on Wednesday, September 13th 2006, at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The event included several workshop presentations on technology, math and science resources available to teachers, Pathfinder and many more.

GEAR UP at the University of Missouri St. Louis

In an effort to encourage our students to think about post secondary education and what they need to know as they look forwad to their college years, GEAR UP organized a college tour at the University of Missouri Saint Louis this past summer.

GEAR UP at the University of Missouri Kansas City

One of the campus tour we conducted with our GEAR UP students and their families was at the University of Missouri Kansas. This campus visit was a success, our students were excited to learn about UMKC and the different opportunities that are available to UMKC students.

Missouri Black Expo in St. Louis

|
This summer GEAR UP was one of the organization that was featured at the Missouri Black Expo in Saint Louis. Families, educators, students and our GEAR UP partners came together to participate at this event. Our panelist included a few local artists of the Saint Louis metropolitan area that were present with their parents or family members. The focus of the discussion was to show the influence that parents and family involvement has on student performance and their success.
