The students' component of the GEAR UP-St. Louis program is designed to improve academic performance by increasing preparation in the core subject areas of mathematics, science, literacy and social studies. Another purpose is to increase expectations for students through college awareness, career opportunities, preparation using web-based career exploration and academic portfolio applications.
