Our Mission

The mission of GEAR UP-ST. LOUIS is to significantly increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education (college).

The GEAR UP-ST. LOUIS partnership is committed to developing and strengthening peer and family support systems for high academic achievement; enhancing teaching and school leadership for improving student learning; increasing attendance and higher state test scores, graduation rates and numbers of students who attend post-secondary education.

The St. Louis GEAR UP program is here to help students prepare for high school graduation and enrollment into college.  ALL eligible students in the graduating class of 2011, along with their families and teachers from the following districts can participate in various GEAR UP programs:

• Bayless School District
• Ferguson-Florissant School District
• Hancock Place School District
• Hazelwood School District
• Jennings School District
• Normandy School District
• Riverview Gardens School District
• Ritenour School District
• St. Louis Public Schools
• University City School District
• Wellston School District

• Help students improve their grades and academic achievement
• Increase student's own educational goals and improve opportunities for their future success, especially planning for college.
• Provide students with academic advice, resources, and information to help them prepare for college enrollment.
• Provide opportunities and ways that families can plan and afford the hope of brighter futures that higher education offers
• Offer resources to teachers and administrators for enhancing their classroom curriculum and projects.
